March 16th Update:
All of us at Local1 thank you for sending in your letters of support! The CRTC has received letters of support from viewers, business owners, mayors, councilors, MLA's and non-profits from across the country. The support was overwhelming. Thank you so much.
Even though the March 15th deadline has passed, if you have not signed a support letter to the CRTC (below), please still do so. We need your help!
March 8th Update
The CRTC has withdrawn our application from the scheduled April hearings and will reschedule for a later date. We don't know when that might be yet. But Local1 is still active! Stay tuned!
What is Local1?
In the coming weeks, we will ask the CRTC to grant us a license for an exciting new TV network in Western Canada. And we need your help.
Some broadcasters are reducing or cancelling local TV programming in many Canadian markets. We think there is a better way. So we have applied to the CRTC for a brand new TV channel. One that offers support of local communities, big and small, a hyper-local TV alternative in 64 cities and towns across Canada.
Local1 is only a placeholder name for now. But make no mistake. The heart of the proposed service will be community-specific weather information, forecasts, news feeds, environmental features and road reports. It’s a channel you can call your own.
You can play an important role in the potential success of the application by sending a letter of support to the CRTC via email (form is below), Canada Post or by Fax.
